Honu of Aloha

Handcrafted from a single piece of locally sourced Hawaiian milo wood, this sculpture is a celebration of Hawaiʻi’s natural beauty and the spirit of aloha.
Flowing through the rich grain of the milo are vibrant turquoise resin inlays inspired by the crystal-clear waters surrounding the islands. Preserved within the resin are real dried orchid leis, capturing a symbol of welcome, love, and connection to Hawaiʻi. Their soft colors and organic forms create a beautiful contrast against the warmth of the wood, inviting a closer look.
The honu is one of Hawaiʻi’s most treasured ocean animals, representing wisdom, protection, longevity, and safe passage. I designed this piece to honor that symbolism while allowing the natural shape and character of the milo wood to guide the final form. Rather than forcing the wood into a design, I let nature lead the process, making each sculpture completely unique.
Every piece is handcrafted in Hawaiʻi and no two will ever be alike. The grain of the milo, the flowing resin, and the preserved orchid leis ensure that each honu carries its own story—a lasting reminder of the beauty, culture, and aloha of the Hawaiian Islands.
